It always amused and intrigued me how my good friend, Jon Maffei, would make decent money on Ebay by selling virtual goods for Everquest. It was hard to comprehend someone spending real money on intangible items, but obviously there are plenty of people willing to do so.
Turns out that was chump change compared to nowadays. According to this November 29th article on Banking on a virtual economy, Jon Jacobs, became the first person in the history of online gaming to spend $100,000 on a single virtual item when he bought a space station in the game "Project Entropia". Incredible!
